Royal College of Music Brass Faculty welcomes three new professors

Monday 15 July 2024

We are delighted to announce that horn player Zoë Tweed, trumpeter Christian Barraclough and trombonist Rupert Whitehead will join the Brass Faculty from September 2024.

Amos Miller, Head of Brass at the Royal College of Music, comments: ‘I’m delighted to welcome a triumvirate of talent to the Brass Faculty professorial staff: Zoë, Christian and Rupert are all brilliant teachers and lovely people, as well as being some of finest brass players I know. They will be a wonderful addition to our world-class teaching staff.’

Trumpeter Christian Barraclough has a thriving freelance career working regularly with major orchestras and ensembles including the London Symphony, Philharmonia and BBC Symphony, collaborating often with contemporary artists and composers. He can be heard on countless recordings and film scores including the Marvel films, Dunkirk and Solo: A Star Wars Story and performs regularly in London’s West End, integrating his diverse experiences into his teaching.

Zoë Tweed became the youngest member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra when she joined their horn section just a year after finishing her studies. Sought after as a soloist and ensemble player, she has performed recitals across the UK and has recorded for film, TV and on albums for artists including Alison Sudol and Cody Fry.

Trombonist Rupert Whitehead joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022, performing regularly across the world and actively engaging with their Community and Education department, RPO Resound. His impressive career includes performances with the Philharmonia, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and Britten Sinfonia among others.

The three new professors join the Royal College of Music’s outstanding brass faculty where students are actively supported to find the career that best suits them as a player. Students benefit from opportunities to perform in a wide variety of ensembles, working with world-class conductors, masterclass leaders and visiting artists, and participate in sit-in schemes with leading orchestras including the Philharmonia, BBC Symphony and English National Opera Orchestras. These experiences provide students with first-hand professional experience and mentorship from some of the finest players in the world.
