Gary Ryan appointed Head of Strings Faculty

Gary Ryan has been appointed Head of Strings at the Royal College of Music and brings 'a wealth of experience’ to the role.
A classical guitarist, Gary has performed worldwide as a soloist, a chamber musician and masterclass leader. He is also a respected adjudicator and juror, sought out for his expertise in instrumental competitions including the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year.
Gary Ryan joined the Royal College of Music (RCM) in 1996 as a guitar and academic professor and was later appointed Assistant Head of Strings.
Director, Professor Colin Lawson, comments: ‘Gary brings with him a wealth of experience as a performer, composer, teacher and examiner. His appointment follows a wide-ranging and thorough search process and I’m thrilled that the Strings Faculty will benefit from his excellent leadership.’
Speaking of his appointment, Gary Ryan said: ‘It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the Royal College of Music’s new Head of Strings. The RCM is a truly extraordinary musical environment which I consider my musical home and I am excited to lead the String Faculty forward into a new era, working in partnership with our outstanding students and world-leading professors.’
