RCM Baroque Orchestra perform with BBC Singers live on BBC Radio 3

Thursday 20 October 2022

Musicians from the Royal College of Music’s (RCM) Historical Performance faculty will perform with the BBC Singers in a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 this Friday 21 October.

The invitation to perform with the BBC Singers, Britain’s only full-time professional chamber choir, was made through the RCM’s Creative Careers Centre, which provides students with unparalleled support to develop their musicianship and make professional connections. Throughout the evening, the music of Bach will be performed alongside the rich heritage of Indian classical music.

Professor Ashley Solomon, Chair and Head of Historical Performance at the RCM comments: ‘I’m delighted that the RCM Baroque Orchestra is partnering with the BBC Singers in this exciting programme. This performance, which will be broadcast live on Radio 3 from London’s Milton Court, will be our first collaboration together and we are thrilled to have been invited by the BBC to participate.’

RCM musicians will perform Bach’s Magnificat in D Major and Reena Esmail’s This Love Between Us. Also featured in the concert’s programme is the world premiere of Awaaz, Soumik Datta’s BBC Commission, weaving Indian classical music, Bengali folk, Tagore and Partition songs with his own compositions about migration and identity.
