Royal College of Music (RCM) alumna Laura Ayoub returns to hear new work performed by RCM String Band

Wednesday 27 October 2021

On Wednesday 3 November, the Royal College of Music’s String Band will present a diverse and varied programme including Night Train - a brand-new work composed by RCM graduate, Laura Ayoub and her sister Sarah.

The concert at the RCM will be only the second time the work is performed, with the String Band performing its world premiere at the church of St Bartholemew the Great just days before.

The Ayoub Sisters are a multi-instrumental musical duo comprised of Scottish-Egyptian sisters Laura and Sarah Ayoub. Laura graduated from the RCM in 2017 and has since gained international acclaim alongside her sister. The sisters recorded their first album – which debuted at number one in the classical charts and received nominations for a classical Brit Award and a Global Award – while Laura was still studying at the RCM.

On returning to the RCM to hear today’s students perform her composition, Laura Ayoub says: 'Performing in the String Band was one of my first and fondest memories of my time at the Royal College of Music. I remember each concert we played and the repertoire we performed. I felt so inspired to be part of such a high levelled ensemble. To return as a graduate to hear the String Band perform my composition is going to be an incredibly special moment. I couldn’t think of a better group of musicians to be debuting this piece.'

In addition to Night Train, the concert will also feature Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence op. 70 and Mozart’s iconic Sinfonia Concertante.

The RCM String Band concert takes place in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall on Wednesday 3 November at 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Box Office here.
