RCM masterclasses receive significant gift from Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne

The Royal College of Music (RCM) receives a significant gift from Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne (AMFL) for the next three years to support its acclaimed masterclasses programme.

Masterclasses at the RCM are extraordinary events that allow current students to learn from, and perform with, influential musicians in one of the RCM’s various performance spaces. From autumn 2021, students at the RCM will benefit from enhanced opportunities as a result of a brand-new Performance Hall and Performance Studio, built as part of the More Music campus development. The masterclasses programme spans the breadth of the College’s nine faculties, offering invaluable experience to students. In sponsoring these vital training opportunities, AMFL will help to ensure that the RCM can continue offering high-level masterclasses, enabling the next generation of music professionals to share their gifts with the world.

After a challenging eighteen months, this grant will have an exceptional impact on our students, ensuring we can maintain the quality and quantity of our masterclasses in the years to come. Our masterclass series provides inspirational training opportunities for our talented young musicians with celebrated musicians from around the world. Our vision that these events are also accessible to wide and diverse audiences is one that Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne shares. The Foundation's generous and deeply valued grant has come at a particularly opportune moment with the return of in-person events at the RCM.’

The autumn 2021 masterclasses programme begins on Tuesday 21 September with RCM alumna violinist Francesca Dego working with RCM students in the College’s newly built Performance Hall. This opening masterclass is the first of several events that the AMFL has made possible. Others include a harpsichord masterclass with Julian Perkins and a viola masterclass with Nora Romanoff-Schwarzberg.
