BBC Young Musician 2012

No fewer than five brilliantly talented RCM musicians have made it through to the category finals of the BBC Young Musician 2012.

Bassoonist Charlotte Cox, currently in her first year at the RCM, lines up alongside four RCM Junior Department students: pianist Martin Bartlett, cellist Laura van der Heijden and percussionists James Larter and Jyun-Gi Lee.

They are all hoping to reach the Grand Final on 13 May, and to follow in the footsteps of RCM Junior Department pianist Laura Melda, who scooped the last BBC Young Musician award in 2010 (and who will be commencing her studies at the RCM in September 2012).

Over the next few weeks, you will be able to watch their progress on BBC Four and on BBC iPlayer.
