Kate Flatt
Kate Flatt is a movement director, choreographer, and director. Her work with the Opera Studio singers aims to raise bodily awareness, release tension, and develop theatre movement and dance skills for rehearsals and performance. Her one-to-one coaching explores, in collaboration with the singer, the physicality of an aria towards creating a portrait that reflects the character traits, thoughts and content of the aria.
Kate has a long career in opera and lyric theatre. UK productions include Turandot, Aida, William Tell (ROH); Gloriana, Peter Grimes (Opera North) The Carmelites, Verdi’s Requiem, Carmen (ENO); Onegin, Bartered Bride, Don Giovanni (WNO); Marriage of Figaro, Garsington and RCM; Cunning Little Vixen, Magic Flute.
Theatre work includes Three Sisters, Dream Play, Albert Speer (NT); Dr Faustus, T’is Pity She’s a Whore (Young Vic); Hamlet (Old Vic), Kreutzer Sonata (The Gate); Fiddler on the Roof (West End), the original production of Les Misérables (West End and worldwide); Songs from a Hotel Bedroom with songs by Kurt Weill (ROH Linbury).
Kate is a Rayne Foundation and Churchill Fellow. She was awarded an OBE in 2020.
