Eivind Ringstad

Viola professor

The Norwegian violist Eivind Ringstad (b. 1994) made his breakthrough after winning 1. Price in the «Eurovision Young Musicians 2012» in Vienna, performing for 40.000 people and live-broadcasted on television all across Europe. Since then he has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as Bergen Philharmonic, Copenhagen Phil, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Arctic Chamber Orchestra, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and the BBC Philharmonic.

Eivind has already released several recordings in his career. His first recording featuring William Walton´s Viola Concerto with Oslo Philharmonic was released in 2017 on Lawo Classics. Three years later he released «Correspondances» together with German pianist David Meier on Rubicon Classics. In June 2024 he released his latest album “Mozart Next Generation” playing Mozarts Sinfonia Concertante together with Swedish violinist Johan Dalene and Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg conducted by Howard Griffiths for Alpha Classics.

As a chamber musician he has performed with leading world-class musicians including Janine Jansen, Pinchas Zukerman, Steven Isserlis and Leif Ove Andsnes. He has been invited to festivals such as Utrecht Chamber Music festival, Bergen International Festival, Sion Festival, Edinburgh International Festival and Oslo Chamber Music Festival. Eivind is also Co-Artistic Director for Norsjø Chamber Music Festival in Telemark, Norway with violinist Ludvig Gudim and composer Jo David Meyer Lysne.

Eivind started to play the violin at the age of 5, moving to the viola as his main instrument nine years later. He studied at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo, Norway with Prof. Soon-Mi Chung Barratt-Due. In addition he has also received guidance from Henning Kraggerud and Maxim Rysanov.

Eivind has since February 2024 been appointed principal viola for the London Symphony Orchestra. He plays the Andrea Guarneri «Conte Vitale» viola dating from 1676, generously on loan from Dextra Musica.
