Orientation

The Royal College of Music welcomes new and returning students to the new 2024-25 academic year. This year is your next step on an inspirational and creative journey, full of opportunities that will help you develop as a musician, including an exciting performance programme.

The information provided here lets you know what to expect during registration and Induction Week. It will also tell you what you need to do before you arrive at the RCM in September.

It is important to read all the information carefully, especially if you are an international student preparing to come to the UK for the first time.

We look forward to you joining us from Monday 16 September to experience Induction Week in person. We have planned an induction programme that will introduce you to all areas of the College, including key staff, faculties and support departments, including onsite tours of the buildings. The Students’ Union also has a range of onsite social events planned to welcome you to the RCM community.

Our courses are designed to be delivered onsite and in-person at the College, where you will have full access to our excellent staff, world-leading teaching and facilities while keeping safe, as well as taking advantage of our digital learning environment, performance opportunities, pastoral care and more. We know some of you may have individual queries about beginning your studies at the RCM. We are here to help ensure the start of term is as smooth as possible.

Online registration & fee payment

Registration and fee payment takes place online and must be completed before induction week. You will receive an email with the subject 'Student Self Service Account Activation', which will contain a link to the registration and payment portal along with your username and password.

The registration process is different for new students and those returning to continue their course. Previous RCM students starting a different course this year should note they are classed as new students.

Preparing for Induction Week

Induction Week is the first week of the autumn term, during which the RCM runs an extensive programme of events designed to enable you to acquaint yourself with life at the RCM and get your year off to a great start. There will be in-person music-making activities, group meetings, activities and tours of the campus with our Students' Union team. The SU team have planned a range of events and activities to help you meet fellow students and have some fun. Further information will be sent before the start of term.
