Cellist Patrick Moriarty is one of Ireland's leading musicians, widely sought after as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher. He began his musical journey at the Young European Strings School of Music in Dublin before moving to London, where he was awarded a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After his studies there, he was invited to return as a Chamber Music Fellow. He also pursued further studies at the European Chamber Music
Academy, the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, and the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. Patrick is a founding member of the award-winning Paddington Trio, one of the most exciting ensembles of their generation. They have won first prize in several prestigious international competitions, including the 70th Royal Over-Seas League International Competition, the Parkhouse Award at Wigmore Hall, Triomphe de L’Arts in Brussels, the Storioni Festival Concours, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival Prize in the Netherlands. During the 2023/2024 season, the trio performed extensively across Europe and North America and made their concerto debut, performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto with the Jyväskylä Sinfonia in Finland. They are currently
Artists of City Music Foundation, Kirckman Concert Society and Le Dimore del Quartetto. Patrick has performed at venues and festivals such as Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, Royal Festival Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St John's Smith Square, Bridgewater Hall, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Musiikkitalo in Helsinki, the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Brighton Festival, Buxton Festival, IMS Prussia Cove Open Chamber Music, West Cork
Chamber Music Festival, Lake District Summer Music Festival, North York Moors Festival, Westport Chamber Music Festival, Schiermonnikoog Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Grafenegg Festival, GAIA Chamber Music Festival, and the Festival de Musique Classique à Sion. His recording work includes collaborations with The Abbey Road Studios Institute to record works
by E.J. Moeran, as well as chamber works by Anders Hillborg and George Walker for BBC Radio 3. He has also recorded for other radio broadcasts such as RTÉ Lyric FM in Ireland, VPRO and NPO Radio 4 in the Netherlands, SRF 2 Kultur in Switzerland, YLE in Finland, and has made several appearances on the BBC Radio 3 program 'In Tune'. Passionate about contemporary music, Patrick has work closely with composers such as Thomas Adès, Sam Perkin, Lotta Wennäkoski, Garth Knox, Roxanna Panufnik, Raymond Deane and Anders Hillborg.
In addition to his performance career, Patrick teaches cello and chamber music at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
