Eric Wang
An outstanding virtuoso violinist, Eric Wang is considered to be one of the most promising violinists of his generation and he has been receiving increasing international attention. In June 2017, the London-based violinist made his solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, USA.
Since 2011 Eric has been the Concert-Master of the Commonwealth Orchestra, performing many concerto performances for Queen Elizabeth II, and the British Royal Family, in prestigious venues such as Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor Castle, Lancaster House, Marlborough House and the Royal Symphony Hall in Glasgow. In 2017 Eric performed with members of the Commonwealth Orchestra and Commonwealth Children’s Choir on the Broadcast The Queen’s Christmas Message.
With the Commonwealth Orchestra Eric has recorded on numerous occasions, including solo, chamber and orchestral music. He has had many compositions composed especially for him, including several works by the Commonwealth Orchestra’s Emeritus Composer-in-Residence, Paul Carroll. Green Canopy, composed for Eric by Simon Haw MBE, is a major new work which Eric recorded with the Orchestra of the Household Division in January 2022.
In Summer 2024 Eric will be releasing his debut album, performed with pianist Chiao-Ying Chang, which includes works by J.S. Bach, Elgar, Paganini, and Stravinsky. Having been delayed for two years during the Covid pandemic, the recording was successfully completed at Abbey Road Studios.
As a Foundation Scholar and Exhibitioner at the Royal College of Music, he was awarded Bachelor of Music (BMus). Master of Music (MMus), PGDip and Master of Music and Performance (MMP) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. During his studies, he won numerous prizes and scholarships such as the Martin Scholarship, the Myra Hess Scholarship, the Max and Peggy Morgan Prize and the Ricci Foundation. He was also awarded the Outstanding Merit Diploma by Sion-Valais International Violin Competition.
Eric is also a devoted violin educator, he is currently a faculty member at The Royal College of Music Junior Department, Kingston University, and top private schools in and outside of London. He has helped many violin students achieve major progress, including acceptance to study at prestigious music schools.
Eric plays on a fine Cremona violin made by Andrea Guarneri and bows by P. Simon and N. Maline.
