Miranda Francis
ARAM, MA, LRAM, ARCM, PGCE
Head of Junior Programmes and Area Leader for Aural Training Miranda joined the staff of the RCM in 2008 as Area Leader in Aural Training. She studied Double Bass, Organ and Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music, winning several academic prizes including the May Turtle Prize for Outstanding Aural Perception. Over the past twenty five years Miranda has led music departments in both state and independent schools, and was formerly Head of Academic Music at the Purcell School, where she founded the Jazz Department. As a passionate advocate of music education, she was appointed RCM Head of Junior Programmes in 2013. Miranda’s research interests include performance assessment methods and comparative pedagogical approaches to aural training. In addition to her extensive teaching and lecturing commitments, Miranda is Principal Examiner of Performance at Advanced Level for Edexcel and she is an advisor for the Mayor’s Music Fund and the ABRSM. She enjoys leading teachers’ courses all over the country.
