Stravinsky Concerto in E flat (Dumbarton Oaks)
The RCM Chamber Ensemble presents a programme of three intricate, uplifting works, each taking inspiration from city surroundings.
Michael Torke's 1993 instrumental suite characterises places the composer has lived in New York City, with nostalgic, jazz-infused tunes. Alongside is a new oboe concerto from RCM composer Hangrui Zhang, inspired by the networks that bring connection in a bustling city.
Stravinsky's 1937 concerto is named after the grand Washington DC home of the patrons who commissioned the work. Influenced by Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, the piece is filled with unexpected twists and turns and playful staccato melodies.
