ROSL Success for Philip

Thursday 4 February 2016

RCM saxophonist Philip Attard has triumphed in the Woodwind, Brass and Percussion final of the 2016 Royal Over-Seas League Music Competition.

He follows in the footsteps of fellow RCM saxophonist Huw Wiggin, who won the same prize in 2014 and who went on to win the competition’s Gold Medal.

Three of this year’s four category finalists were from the RCM: horn player Ben Goldscheider, currently studying with Susan Dent at the RCM’s Junior Department, was awarded the competition's Philip Jones Memorial Prize and trumpeter Ryan Linham, a recent graduate of the RCM, also gave an outstanding performance.

Philip Attard is currently reading for Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music with Kyle Horch. He is an RCM Scholar supported by a Leverhulme Postgraduate Studentship, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation, the Janatha Stubbs Foundation, and Craxton Memorial Trust.

ROSL ARTS is the arts division of the Royal Over-Seas League, and for over 50 years has developed a diverse portfolio of arts activities in Music, Visual Arts and Literature, devoted to the career development of talented young professional artists and musicians from the UK and the Commonwealth. Recent RCM winners include saxophonist Huw Wiggin (2014) and baritone Morgan Pearse (2013).
