The College is seeking an experienced musician and educator to provide outstanding leadership in music history. The postholder will oversee the BMus core music history curriculum and elective modules in historical musicology.

The College’s Bachelor of Music programme is designed to develop outstanding musicians who will shape the future of classical music. Our redesigned historical studies curriculum encourages students to connect their own artistic practice in performance or composition with critical study of repertoire and performance traditions. Drawing upon the College’s research culture and world-leading facilities, including a new Museum and specialist collections, the curriculum explores the social, cultural, political, and technological factors that have influenced musical practices past and present.

You will be an experienced educator with a strong research profile in any area of historical musicology. You will have substantial previous experience of undergraduate teaching in music history. You will be adept at using technology in innovative ways to support student learning. You will understand diverse student needs and be able to devise engaging and inclusive learning activities for students at different levels.

Working in collaboration with the other Area Leaders, Registry, the Head of Undergraduate Programmes, and the Director of Programmes, you will make an important contribution to teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate level.

The RCM offers world-class teaching facilities, a creative and supportive environment for staff development, and a generous allocation of research time for active researchers.

We especially encourage applications from Black and ethnically diverse musicians, who are currently underrepresented in this area of the College.
