Music has the power to transform lives. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, generations of gifted students from around the world have been nurtured and trained at the Royal College of Music (RCM).
A special thank you
Just a few weeks into lockdown owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was clear that we needed to act swiftly to set up an appeal to support our students – the lifeblood of our institution. The Covid-19 Hardship Appeal, launched at the beginning of April, was the first of its kind at the RCM and we were buoyed and humbled by the response from members of every branch of our RCM family. This vital appeal raised over £428,000. Thank you sincerely to everyone who contributed; not only has your support provided security for our students at this time, but in the longer term, your generosity will safeguard the future of music.
Already, the fund has supported 170 students facing significant financial hardship and we will disburse the final portion of this life-changing funding over the coming weeks and months. We are especially grateful to The Bertarelli Foundation, Croucher Hong Kong Charitable Trust, Chairman of the More Music Campaign Geoff Richards HonRCM and Valerie Richards, and the Vaseppi Trust for their outstanding support. From September 2020, the fund became known as the Community Jameel Hardship Fund in recognition of that organisation’s significant contribution. In addition, gifts from alumni, legacy pledgers, RCM Friends, and other supporters have, together, enabled us to achieve an extraordinary outcome.
The Royal College of Music exists to provide specialised music education at the highest level within a supportive environment that stimulates innovation. Our work transforms lives and, as a result, transforms society. In the coming year, we will focus our attention on the student experience and core activities. We look forward to sharing more about these projects with you soon and how you can continue to secure the future of music as vital advocates for the sector and for the RCM.
