The Royal College of Music was founded as part of Albertopolis, a radical programme of arts, science and industry. Today, this unwavering spirit of innovation and collaboration makes us not only an exciting place to study, but also a leading research centre and the UK’s most sustainable conservatoire.
With state-of-the-art facilities, we encourage musicians to push the boundaries of composition, performance and production. Through the Centre for Performance Science and the Wolfson Centre in Music & Material Culture, we demonstrate the positive ways music can shape society, medicine, culture and technology. Underpinning all this is our sustainability strategy, which calls for a responsible and inclusive future for all.
By investing in these programmes and facilities, we ensure that music helps shape the fast-changing world around us.
Royal College of Music Museum
Our £4.9M development of the Royal College of Music Museum, funded by a significant National Lottery Heritage Fund grant, is one of the largest ever investments in the redevelopment of a museum of music in the UK. Our renowned collection includes the world’s earliest surviving guitar and the oldest known stringed keyboard instrument, and represents a range of music-making activities spanning a period of more than five centuries.
Flentrop Orgelbouw organ
The Royal College of Music's custom-built organ was unveiled in Spring 2018 at the RCM, which has a prestigious history of organ training. This bespoke instrument was designed to achieving a warm, prominent tone, ideal for the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall’s lively acoustic.
