Dave Price
Since graduating with a BMus(Hons) degree from London University Dave has had a very varied performing and teaching career. He initially toured with the orchestra of the Bolshoi Ballet and was later on the music staff at the Royal National Theatre for many years, including for the productions of Trellawney of the Wells, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and the ongoing An Inspector Calls. After this Dave was in the band for the West End premiere run of Assassins by Steven Sondheim. Dave also began to freelance with many symphony orchestras and other ensembles such as the RPO and BBCNOW and appeared on the TV soundtracks of the Prime Suspect series and adverts including Kellogg’s Pop Tarts and Honey Nut Loops. Dave’s commercial work has also included The Baker Brothers, Belle and Sebastian and The Ministry of Sound both in the studio and at major UK Festivals.
As a chamber Musician Dave has always run his own Brass Quintet which has appeared on BBC Television and BBC Radios 3 and 4, he has also played with many other Brass Groups including the Locke Brass Consort.
Dave’s main passion though has always been the Symphony Orchestra and he has played guest principal and had trials for principal and co principal positions in the City of Birmingham Symphony and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras and continues to play with various other orchestras whenever he can. Dave has performed many concertos as soloist (Haydn, Hummel, Arutunian etc) and has done numerous trumpet and organ recitals.
As an educator Dave has taught in some of the country’s top schools and colleges and has been a coach for many youth orchestras including the National Children’s Orchestra. Dave’s pupils have won scholarships, competitions, awards and positions in major senior schools, colleges, universities and youth orchestras including the NYO. Dave has also been Head of Brass and Director of Wind Orchestra at Bryanston School and Winchester College and he currently looks after the brass scholars and pupils at Pilgrims’ School and Canford School as well as his pupils here at RCMJD.
Dave has 2 musical daughters who both had a fantastic time attending RCMJD as students, his hobbies and interests are road cycling and all things French!
