Richard Ward
Richard Ward is a trombonist, conductor and educator. He is from Yorkshire and is a fifth-generation brass player!
Richard regularly plays with many of the major orchestras from the historic London Symphony Orchestra, to the non-classical pioneer, Heritage Orchestra. He has performed on many recording sessions for film and TV scores and in over two dozen West End musicals.
Richard has conducted leading ensembles such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra. He has conducting commercial recording sessions for the BBC, ITV, Premier League and Sony. He is musical director of the brass band Zone One Brass, who he has conducted eight times at the prestigious 'National Brass Band Championship', in the Royal Albert Hall.
As an educator, Richard works at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and was Head of Brass at the University of Huddersfield for five years. He has worked on and devised community, learning and participation projects. He was co-creator of the brass education project 'Brass Tracks' which won the 'Outstanding Musical Collaboration' accolade at the London Music Awards. His coaching has taken him to Conservatoires, Universities, youth and amateur ensembles in the UK and Europe.
