The Alexander Technique works by helping you to identify and prevent the harmful postural habits (how you stand, sit or move) that contribute to, or may be the cause of, stress, pain, or you performing less well than you could.
Ideally, you should be referred for Alexander Technique classes by your teacher, but you can ask the JD office directly too. We accommodate as many requests as possible, but demand is high, so there is usually a waiting list. Priority is given to students with the most urgent need and is subject to us being able to fit it into your timetable.
There is currently no charge for Alexander Technique classes.
These classes are intended to provide support in developing general aural skills, though they may also supplement the training/preparation for ABRSM grade exam aural tests that you would receive in your individual study lessons when preparing for an exam. Training is usually in groups, though occasionally one-to-one tuition is also available. A list of available aural classes is on the JD noticeboards each week.
There is currently no charge for aural classes.
If you would like to request either Alexander Technique or Aural Classes, please contact the JD office - details can be found on the Contact Us page.
