In Visible Soundscapes

Tuesday 9 April 2013

This spring and summer, two RCM composers are providing the soundtrack to an intriguing new sculpture exhibition.

Galleries at the Royal British Society of Sculptors (RBS) have been transformed by sculptor Rob Olins’ large scale work In Visible: bright, unnaturally coloured concave acoustic dishes which challenge visual perceptions and auditory responses.

These high visibility installations are complemented by soundscapes by RCM composers, who have combined natural and manmade sounds from the surrounding area with new music technologies in order to create their recordings.

The RCM composers – who were specially selected by the artist and RBS – are Raquel García Tomás, whose piece steel:speeches is installed until 26 April, and Ryan Cockerham, whose sound piece will be in place from 29 April until the end of August.

In Visible is open to view 12.00 – 17.30 Wednesday to Friday (or by appointment) at The Royal British Society of Sculptors on Old Brompton Road, London SW7.
