Sir George Blunden FRCM died at the age of 89, on 3 March 2012.  Sir George was a member of the Royal College of Music's Council from 1983 and Deputy Chairman from 1990 to 1997.

Sir George Blunden had an auspicious career in banking, joining the Bank of England in 1947 and becoming deputy governor in 1985.  He was knighted in 1987 and retired in 1990.  As well as his role at the Royal College of Music, he was Chairman of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, Chairman of the Samuel Lewis Housing Trust and a Trustee of the Mermaid Theatre.
