Masterclasses

Masterclasses

The RCM regularly invites renowned musicians from all over the world to share their insight and expertise with our students. Masterclasses take place every week and cover a range of instruments, performing styles and techniques, and these lively and illuminating events are also open for members of the public to attend, free of charge. As well as concentrating on their principle study instrument, masterclasses allow students to broaden their musical awareness by attending classes in other disciplines as well.

Masterclasses enable students to gain a wealth of experience from contemporary masters from the international world of classical music, and make up an important part of the academic programme. April 2009 saw the distinguished international soloist and former Leeds International Piano Competition winner Murray Perahia hold a masterclass in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall where he worked with advanced pianists from the Keyboard faculty.

The cost of masterclasses range from £500 to £14,000, with approximately £40,000 per annum allocated for the entire series. The College relies on the generosity of individuals, charitable trusts and companies to support its Masterclass series, and annually seeks funding to secure the whole Series or individual faculty masterclasses.
