RCM Opera: Love, Conflict, Renaissance

23 June 2025 - 28 June 2025

Come to the Britten Theatre for a captivating evening of opera by three composers exploring all aspects of human and spiritual love, embracing the full range of the human condition: love, loss and longing.

Hear sensual and profoundly moving masterpieces by Barbara Strozzi, the most prolifically published composer of secular music of her time, alongside Monteverdi’s pulsing, dramatic madrigals on themes of grief, emotional conflict and tragedy. Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels, meanwhile, is a meditation on the creative genius of Italian Renaissance master Piero della Francesca.

Established star of the great opera houses of the world, director Sir Thomas Allen brings together the threads of these connections with talented RCM singers and instrumentalists, alongside dancers and choreographers from the renowned Rambert School.

This production is made possible with the assistance of Old Possum’s Practical Trust and Victoria, Lady Robey CBE HonRCM through the Robey Visiting Artist Fund.
