7:30pm | 16 May 2018 | Britten Theatre

Weinberg Aria for String Quartet op 9
Prokofiev Quintet op 39 'Trapeze'
Prokofiev String Quartet no 2 in F major op 92
Shostakovich Spanish Songs Op 100
Weinberg String Quartet no 3 op 14

Often seen in the shadows of the Russian giants of the time, the music of Mieczyslaw Weinberg, a Polish-Jew who emigrated to Russia, is only now being recognised for his unique musical style. Here his works are paired alongside chamber pieces by his good friend Shostakovich and Prokofiev’s ‘Trapeze’ quintet written for a travelling troupe in Paris.

This concert is part of the Philharmonia Orchestra's Voices of Revolution: Russia 1917 series.
