Vaughan Williams Symphony no 3 'A Pastoral Symphony'
We welcome BBC Proms favourite and alumnus John Wilson to the conductor’s podium to direct the RCM Symphony Orchestra in an unmissable evening of celebrated concert works.
Revered for his original arrangements and thrilling performances with the John Wilson Orchestra, the esteemed conductor will bring three very different classical compositions to life.
Opening the programme the RCM Symphony Orchestra performs Ravel's tribute waltz to Johann Strauss, La valse, one of his most popular works. Next, Nikola Avramovic performs Ravel’s powerfully imaginative Piano Concerto, composed for a concert pianist who lost his right arm in WW1.
We finish with Vaughan Williams’ Symphony no 3, a richly orchestrated work that promises to provide an exhilarating ending to an enjoyable evening.
Part of the Passing Youth series, commemorating 100 years since the end of WW1.
John Wilson is a stylish showman, but contained, precise, and has the air of a conjuror, eager to enthral with the unexpected
