Principal Study Options

While the majority of applicants apply for a single Principal Study, candidates for the BMus Programme may apply for more than one Principal Study.

There are three ways you can do this:

1. Joint Principal Study: This is where you are auditioned for and may be offered a place to study two instruments (or voice or composition) at equal intensity.

2. Alternative Studies: This is where you wish to audition for two different Principal Studies but you only wish to study one, e.g. you wish to be considered for either Piano or Composition.

Depending on your performance at audition, the RCM may decide to offer a place on only one of the two Principal Studies.

3. Principal and Second Study: This is where you audition for one Principal Study but wish to indicate your interest in pursuing a second instrument (or voice or composition) but to a lesser intensity.  Successful applicants will be eligible to audition for Second Study upon commencement of their programmes.

Please note that if you have two auditions, they may not necessarily be on the same day.

Applicants wishing to be considered for more than one Principal Study on the same programme should only submit a single application.
