After your audition

We aim to inform candidates of the outcome of their audition as soon as we can. We will provide successful applicants with additional information and resources to help them prepare for their life at the Royal College of Music.

When will I know about the outcome of my audition?

If you auditioned in London in December or applied by recording you should hear from us about the outcome of your audition before Christmas.

If you auditioned overseas or auditioned in London in February you should hear from us within two weeks of your audition date.

To ensure we can reach you by email or telephone (including over the Christmas period), please ensure you inform us of any changes in your contact details. If you have applied through UCAS, you can update your contact details in UCAS.

How will my outcome be released?

Candidates who applied through UCAS will receive their offers from the UCAS website, which outlines details of the programme offered along with any conditions. In addition, the RCM will send a confirmatory email with further information.

You will receive an email notification when updated information is available.

To ensure we can reach you by email or telephone (including over the Christmas period), please ensure your information is kept up to date by updating it in UCAS.

Can I get feedback about my audition?

Following publication of results, applicants may request feedback within two months by emailing admissions@rcm.ac.uk. Unfortunately, we are unable to process feedback for requests received later than this. Feedback will normally be processed within 20 working days of receipt, but please be aware requests for feedback during Christmas and New Year may take longer as the RCM is closed.

The purpose of the audition is only to assess an applicant’s suitability for the specified course; it is not intended as a consultation. Our courses are highly competitive and applicants should know feedback may simply state that other applicants were stronger or that the course was not suitable for them. The RCM will not enter into a dialogue with applicants regarding feedback.

Fees & scholarships

Whether you are planning to study as an undergraduate or postgraduate student at the Royal College of Music, you should consider how you will finance your studies.

Please refer to our fees and funding page for a full range of information and advice.

Every student who applies for a place on one of the RCM's performance or composition courses commencing in 2024 will be considered for scholarship, whether you have applied by video or attended an audition or interview in person.

There is no separate application process.

Eligibility for scholarships is based on merit, which is determined by performance at audition (or by submission of video) or the strength of portfolio and interview for composers.

If you are offered a scholarship or study award you will receive a letter, normally sent by email, confirming this and the conditions of your award.

Consultation lessons

If you would like to consider a consultation lesson with one of our professors please contact the relevant Faculty Administration team.

There is normally a charge of £90 for a consultation lesson (but this may vary), which is conducted in the professor’s own time. This charge is payable directly to the professor.
