Russian Extravaganza

Wednesday 26 February 2014

The Sochi Winter Olympics may have come to an end, but here at the RCM we’re keeping the Russian spirit going with three celebrations of Russian music.

On Thursday 27 February at 6.00pm the RCM Philharmonic orchestra returns with a concert of exhilarating music by Glinka and Shostakovich, plus Arutiunian’s virtuosic Trumpet Concerto performed by RCM Concerto Competition winner Catherine Knight.

The Russian theme continues from 28 February to 4 March with Kalinka! five days of free performances, lectures and masterclasses celebrating the best of Russian keyboard music. The festival includes a Rachmaninov study day and a Scriabin marathon (broadcast live on our website), and concludes with a visit from Andrey Pisarev, winner of the Rachmaninov International Piano Competition and Head of Keyboard at the Moscow Conservatory, who will lead a masterclass with talented RCM pianists.

Then on Tuesday 4 March we present a very special staged concert performance of 'The Soldier’s Tale' by Igor Stravinsky. This spectacular event features narration from Edward Fox, dance from the Royal Ballet School, direction from multi-talented RCM alumnus Simon Butteriss, and a unique pair of red high heels…

Tickets for all events can be booked from the RCM Box Office on 020 7591 4314 (Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm), online at www.rcm.ac.uk/boxoffice, or at the door (subject to availability).
