Lieder Prize for Rowan

Monday 10 November 2014

RCM soprano Rowan Pierce has won the Schubert Society of Britain’s Lieder Prize.

Rowan, who is currently studying with Amanda Roocroft and Simon Lepper at the RCM, was awarded the prize by leading English lyric tenor and RCM alumnus Ian Partridge following her performance in his masterclass on Saturday 8 November. Her award includes £500 prize money and the opportunity to give a recital for the Schubert Society in February 2015, as well as a specially commissioned bronze sculpture by Gloria Loring.

The Lieder Prize is a brand-new competition held by the Schubert Society of Britain and German YMCA in London in conjunction with the 2014 London Song Festival, which gives audiences the opportunity to hear both young up-and-coming singers and internationally established artists. Singers who have previously appeared in the Festival include RCM alumni Elizabeth Watts, Jennifer Johnston and Ruby Hughes.

Rowan will perform with other outstanding RCM vocalists in the next RCM Chamber Choir concert on Friday 14 November.
