Jacob and Horovitz: Composers of the Week

Monday 15 April 2013

For an entire week, BBC Radio 3 is showcasing the music of two much-loved RCM composers.

Gordon Jacob (1895-1984) composed over 400 works, and spent much of his time tutoring here at the RCM. His star pupil Joseph Horovitz (born 1926) followed in Jacob’s footsteps, and has himself taught at the RCM for almost fifty years.

Each day from Monday 15 to Friday 19 April, Joseph Horovitz joins presenter Donald Macleod to explore both his own music and that of his teacher. You can listen to the episodes on BBC Radio 3 at 12pm (repeated at 6.30pm), or on the BBC iPlayer website.

Composer Of The Week is one of BBC Radio 3's longest-running series, and lets audiences discover more about the lives and works of both celebrated and lesser-known composers. The producer of this edition is Luke Whitlock, RCM alumnus and former member of staff.

Find out more about the series on the Composer of the Week website.
