Honorary Awards Announced

Each year the Royal College of Music bestows a number of honorary awards and fellowships on individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to life at the RCM and the wider musical community.

The RCM is pleased to confer the following awards for 2012/13:

The award of Honorary Doctorate in Music (DMus) will be conferred upon composer Steve Reich and singer Sir Thomas Allen CBE.

In addition, Fellowship of the Royal College of Music (FRCM) will be conferred upon six outstanding musicians: pianist Dimitri Alexeev, singer Alfie Boe, percussionist David Hockings, Principal of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Professor Barry Ife, singer Patricia Rozario and classical guitarist Gary Ryan.

Honorary Membership of the Royal College of Music (HonRCM) will also be presented to six notable individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to music and the RCM in particular: General Manager of the Royal Garden Hotel Graham Bamford, animateur and composer Rachel Leach, RCM Director of Finance and Estates Marcus McDonald, RCM Director of Development Samir Savant, philanthropist Dasha Shenkman and Managing Director of the Philharmonia Orchestra David Whelton.

The awards will be presented at a special ceremony next year.
