Singing in the Rain!

Thursday 31 May 2012

The Royal College of Music Chamber Choir have created a big splash by entertaining the crowds at the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant celebrations on Sunday 3 June, despite having to sing in torrential rain!

The choir performed on board a barge with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by David Parry, singing Last Night of the Proms-style British repertoire including Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia. They provided the grand musical finale to the entire pageant, singing in front of HM The Queen and other members of the Royal family, including HRH THe Prince of Wales, President of the Royal College of Music. You can view extracts from their performance on the BBC website.

They weren't the only RCM performers taking part in the pageant. A lucky few RCMJD students performed as part of the Mayor’s Junior Jubilee Brass Band. The 65-piece band consisted of Junior Department students from all 4 London-based conservatoires, together with senior college student mentors and children from the London Boroughs in which the colleges are based.
