Boconnoc Award 2014

Wednesday 28 May 2014

The Laefer Quartet has been named as the recipients of the 2014 Boconnoc Music Award.

The saxophone quartet, formed at the RCM in 2012, consists of RCM musicians Amy Green, Ruth Hayes, Jessamy Holder and Stephen Shepherd. Together they embrace a variety of genres, performing transcriptions of classical works alongside works by contemporary composers.

The ensemble will be resident at Boconnoc Estate in Cornwall at the end of July. Their residency includes recitals at Boconnoc House on 22 and 24 July, and culminates in a public concert on 25 July in the estate's parish church.

Now in its third year, the award was established thanks to the generosity of Anthony and Elizabeth Fortescue, owners of Boconnoc. The prize constitutes a week’s residency on the estate, with all travel, lodging and costs covered, providing a valuable opportunity for the musicians to focus on their music in the peace and tranquility of the beautiful surroundings of the estate.

The Laefer Quartet said “We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded the 2014 Boconnoc Music Award and feel extremely privileged to be given such a wonderful opportunity. The chance to spend quality time rehearsing and performing together in a supportive environment is enormously valuable and couldn’t have come at a better time for us as a graduating ensemble from the Royal College of Music.”
