This post is offered on a full-time basis for a fixed-term period of 12 months in the first instance and is immediately available.

Founded in 1882, the Royal College of Music (RCM) is a world-leading music conservatoire with a prestigious history and contemporary outlook.

The RCM’s Estates & Facilities team is now seeking to appoint a Maintenance Operative (Electrical) to be responsible for ensuring the estates is well maintained and building services are statuary compliant, ensuring a high standard of service delivery from the in-house and out-sourced maintenance teams. Reporting to the Acting Maintenance Manager, the postholder will be expected to carry out tasks such as; routine checks of supplies and services, periodic checks to mechanical and general plant systems, electrical updating works and general rewiring and a variety of other maintenance tasks across the RCM.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Professionally qualified in an Electrical discipline, with experience of working in a Building Maintenance environment and of using BMS
  • Knowledgeable in all statutory legislation in relation to estates maintenance including Building Regulations, L8, DDA, COSHH, Asbestos, CDM regulations, ACOP’s etc.
  • Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks whilst maintaining a strong customer service approach.

This will give new foyer space, better access and circulation throughout the building, two new performance spaces, a new Museum of Music and more practice and teaching rooms.
